Bad Mommy for not updating the blog! Bad, Bad Mommy!

Maryam in her cute little bell bottom jeans and a shirt that says "Princess in Training." Our friend Jennifer gave that shirt to Maryam for her birthday. It fits now!

Maryam's AM nap. She was rolling around on the floor playing with her drum and then silence.....
Maryam's PM nap. Daddy gave her some dinner and then Maryam fell asleep on him for an hour. Nice break for Mommy! Too bad Daddy's not feeling good though. :(

OK, so feeding news! Maryam enjoys Vanilla ice cream! Hooray! Well, Daddy discovered the "magic" that is the Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich and shared it with me. I shared it with maryam and she LOVED it! Well, the ice cream part anyway. I put a little of it on her lips and she licked it off immediately. Then she leaned into the sandwich and opened her mouth a little bit, put her lips on the ice cream, pulled away and licked her lips! She did it over and over again! AND, she even let me put the ice cream to her mouth too! It was AMAZING! For a few minutes I experienced normalcy, it felt great. We've done this two times now and both times she was accepting.
Maryam enjoys pretzels VERY MUCH. She also likes Ritz crackers too! So, Ritz came out with a new cracker where it has Ritz cracker on one side and pretzel on the other side. Maryam was only reluctant for a few seconds before she put it to her lips. Once she realized it was something she liked she kept putting it in her mouth. Of course it only lasts a few minutes, but hey, its progress!
On Sunday night she fell asleep with a bottle of water in her mouth! She was munching on it for about 20 minutes before she finally just nodded off. It was amazing! Of course very little water came out, but it was nice rocking my baby to sleep while "feeding" her a bottle. Again, a bit of normalcy!
Maryam is pulling herself up to a sitting position. She just sort of pulls herself up using whatever is near her. Her Karaoke/mirror toy that she loves is what I've seen her use most. But she's tried using the couch, a reclining chair, and anyone sitting near her...she grabbed me by my hair earlier tonight, that was fun! She's been all over the place crawling and rolling. Its amazing, she just started moving one day and hasn't stopped since! And two days ago she started going up on to her hands and knees and rocking, so I guess hand and knee crawling could be coming soon.
And she started responding to a "social game." That's what her EI teacher calls it anyway. When we say, "How Big is Maryam?" She raises her hands up above her head as we say in a REALLY high pitched voice, "Sooooooo Big." We've been doing this since the day she came home from the hospital and now she's doing it all on her own! Its GREAT!
On Sunday Maryam turned 15 months old. Its hard to believe that this time last year she was still in the hospital and hadn't even reached her due date yet. Her due date was March 22, 2007. We're finally coming up on the day she was supposed to be born and this year turn 1. Its a little bitter sweet. I remember being in the NICU when she was first born and the Neos saying that babies born that early aren't expected to go home much before their due date. I thought, well, 3 months and 3 weeks isn't too bad, it could be worse. And it was, Maryam stayed 6 weeks past her due date! 142 days from the day she was born to the day she first came home. Of course, that doesn't count the extra 12 days spent in the NICU when she went back in July for the fundoplication and Gtube surgery, but hey, who's counting! ;)

You and Maryam have come a long way. Bless her heart. Once she gets started there is going to be no stopping her. I know it has been a long year, and a hard winter with all the illness, but spring is upon us and everything and everyone blossoms, as we are seeing in Maryam. She is a Shanoian, and loves the sunshine. Sorry to hear Brett is not feeling well. I've been down for a week with the cold and flu and Adrianna had it the week before me. Wonder where I got it. So keep up the good work Maryam and Mommy and Daddy too. Love, Marietta
